A Pakistani taxi driver still working as missiles rained above Dubai became the first civilian casualty of Iran’s strikes on the city.

Debris from a drone that had been intercepted by Dubai’s aerial defences fell and struck his vehicle as it crossed a bridge.

Smoke from the flaming wreckage could be seen billowing as traffic continues to move through the plush Al Barsha neighbourhood.

The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai confirmed it was coordinating with local authorities to assist the driver’s family and facilitate repatriation.

He has not been identified yet.

The Al Barsha neighbourhood is one of the most popular areas for tourists with the Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai, attracting families from around the world.

More than 100 people have been injured across the UAE from debris, explosions, and related incidents.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a US airstrike damaged an Iranian desalination plant on Qeshm Island, warning that in doing so ‘the U.S. set this precedent, not Iran.’ Such infrastructure is critical for drinking water supplies in the parched deserts of the Gulf.
